Understanding The Parts

We use numbered icons throughout this guide to help you easily locate and understand each component. These numbers correspond to the parts listed below and will make setup and troubleshooting much simpler.

The Top

2️⃣ Handle – Easy to carry and transport. 6️⃣ LED Switch – Turns the light on and off.

The Inside

3️⃣ LED Light – Illuminates your space. 5️⃣ USB Port – Used for charging 5V 1A devices. 4️⃣ Gas Vent – Allows gas to escape safely.

The Outer Parts

1️⃣ Thread Cap – Liquid filling / Draining port 7️⃣ Electrode Plates – React with the salt water to generate power.

How It Works

The usage time of the Hopen saltwater lamp depends on the concentration of the saltwater:

Higher salt concentration = faster reaction = shorter usage time.

You can use household salt or industrial salt with a concentration between 1% and 10%.

Seawater (~3.5% salt) works, but it has lower power output. Adding extra salt improves performance. Alternative sources like salt-containing sports drinks or condiments (e.g., soy sauce) can work as long as they meet the salt concentration requirement.

Liquids That Work

Your Hopen lamp runs on any salt-containing liquid. Higher salt = faster reaction, but shorter electrode life. Lower salt = longer run time. Your choice.

Household & Industrial Salt

Mix with water to create a 1%-10% salt concentration for optimal performance.

Seawater

Naturally contains ~3.5% salt—power output may be lower. Add extra salt to improve performance.

Salt-Containing Sports Drinks

Some sports drinks contain enough salt to generate power.

Condiments (Like Soy Sauce)

Within the recommended salt range? You're ready to use them.

Sodas (Carbonated Soft Drinks)

Some sodas contain trace amounts of salt, but high sugar content may cause residue buildup and reduce efficiency over time.

Salt Mix (1% to 10%):
When sodas are mixed with salt to create a 1% to 10% concentration, the soda can also generate electricity.

River, Pond, and Lake Water

River Water:
Contains natural minerals and salts, but the low salt concentration means frequent refills.

Pond Water:
May work, but impurities could cause sediment buildup, affecting lifespan.

Lake Water:
Similar to river water, but performance may vary due to mineral content.

Salt-Mixed Water (1% to 10%):
When any of the above water types are mixed with salt to create a 1% to 10% concentration, the water can also generate electricity.

Check Saltwater Fluidity Regularly

Check every 4-6 hours. If the liquid becomes thick or sluggish, it can affect performance.

To keep it working properly, clean and replace with fresh saltwater if needed.

Additional Information

There is no disadvantage to using very high salt concentrations, but it wastes salt.

A higher concentration does not improve performance.

If the salt level is too high, the salt powered lamp will not function properly.

Always maintain the recommended salt concentration for best efficiency.

Replacing the Electrode Plates

1、Once an electrode plate is consumed, replace it. 2、Each new aluminum plate allows for at least 120 hours of continuous use. 3、If used intermittently, it can last months or even years, depending on frequency.

Proper Storage After Use

1、After use, pour out the saltwater, rinse thoroughly with fresh water, and let it dry in a well-ventilated area. 2、Once dried, the lamp can be stored for up to 20 years.
