How does this lamp create light if there are no batteries or solar panels?

The lamp operates using an built-in magnesium fuel cell.When you add salt water, the saline solution acts as an electrolyte.This triggers a natural electrochemical reaction between internal metal plates (a magnesium anode and a copper cathode), generating an immediate flow of electrons that powers the high-efficiency LED bulb.It is essentially a fresh battery that you activate on-demand using water.

What is the exact ratio of salt to water required?

For optimal performance, add 2 teaspoons (approx. 10 grams) of standard table salt to 6 ounces (approx. 180ml) of clean water.Swirl or shake the unit gently for 10–15 seconds to ensure the salt is completely dissolved before turning the power switch on.

Can I use ocean seawater instead of mixing my own?

Yes! Clean, straight seawater can be poured directly into the lantern reservoir without adding any extra salt.If the ocean water has visible sand, seaweed, or debris, filter it through a clean cloth before pouring it in to maximize the lifetime of the internal components.

⏳ Longevity & Lifespan

How long will the lamp stay lit on a single fill of salt water?

A single fill of salt water will provide continuous illumination for approximately 100 to 120 hours. If the light begins to dim before that time, empty the old water, rinse the chamber briefly to clear out residue, and pour in a fresh salt water mixture.

Does the lamp ever "wear out" or require replacement parts?

Yes.Because the electricity is generated by a chemical reaction, the internal magnesium bar (the anode) slowly consumes itself over time.After roughly 100 to 140 total hours of cumulative use, the magnesium bar will dissolve completely and power generation will stop.To reuse the lantern indefinitely, simply unscrew the bottom drainage port, remove the old bar, screw in a replacement magnesium power bar, and add fresh salt water.

What is the shelf life of the lamp if stored unused in an emergency kit?

Stored dry and empty, the lamp has an indefinite shelf life of over 5 to 10 years. Unlike traditional alkaline batteries that leak, corrode, or lose their charge sitting in a closet, this fuel cell remains 100% stable until the exact moment it comes into contact with salt water.

🧼 Maintenance & Storage

Can I turn the lamp off, or does it have to run continuously until it dies?

You can turn it on and off anytime using the power switch.However,if you plan to turn it off for more than 24 hours, you must drain the salt water, rinse the internal chamber with tap water, and let it dry completely. Leaving salt water sitting inside an inactive lamp will cause the magnesium bar to continue degrading unnecessarily.

Is the water left inside the lamp toxic after use?

No.The byproduct of the reaction is a completely non-toxic magnesium sediment (magnesium hydroxide) mixed with common salt water.It can be safely poured down any standard household drain or disposed of outdoors without harming the environment.

Damage from accidents, water exposure beyond intended use, misuse, and normal wear (like used electrodes or accessories) aren’t covered.

How do I claim the warranty?
